Ed has been representing clients in employment and civil rights cases for over a decade. Ed is a 1991 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Oregon. He graduated magna cum laude from Willamette University College of Law in 1994, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Willamette Law Review.
After law school, Ed became a member of the
Washington bar and began working as a litigation associate attorney with the Seattle law firm of Karr Tuttle Campbell, where he gained experience litigating a variety of complex civil cases. Ed started his own law practice in 1997, focusing mainly on employment discrimination cases. The following year Ed asked law school classmate Erik Heipt to join him, and the two of them formed the law firm of Budge & Heipt.
Over the past ten years, Ed has litigated multiple jury trials in state and federal courts in Washington and Oregon. He has won several favorable jury verdicts on behalf of plaintiffs in civil rights cases, including verdicts totaling more than $13 million in the past four years alone. Ed has been selected as a “Rising Star” by Washington Law & Politics Magazine, an honor given to the state’s best lawyers under the age of 40.
Ed lives in Seattle with his wife, Averil,
who is also an attorney, and their two young
children. When he’s not practicing law, Ed spends
most of his free time with his family. Ed also
enjoys mountain climbing, scuba diving, and playing
poker.
